Now your pathetic dorm is in need of some serious tunes. The price of home theatres in a box (HTIB) is plummeting under $140.00; all you need to add is a TV. RCA makes a decent 105 watt system with a progressive scan DVD player built in ($129.99 @ RadioShack). With 5 small satellite speakers and a subwoofer, this discrete system will surely fill any dorm room with plenty of noise. Best of all the speaker wire is included! Depending on how much money you have left from your digital makeover will dictate what TV you buy. For most dorm rooms a 20" screen will fit the bill. A RCAŽ 20" Flat Screen TV will give you a great picture and not break the bank (199.99 RadioShack). The flat tube gives a much better quality image than the conventional rounded tubes. Now if you have an extra $800 bucks you can get an 18"LCD TV from Gateway. These TV's take up almost no floor space and can be hung on a wall. The image quality is unparallel. One thing to note, the wall mount is not included and must be purchased separately (retails for $59.99).
Let's recap. For a mere $2348 ($2848 if you get the LCD TV) you get a CD Alarm clock, iPod, Laptop, and a pint sized movie theatre. Not to shabby considering you will be the envy of all of your friends. You just have to remember to invite them over to movie night.
Next week the Digital Guys are going to grandmother's house where we will set granny up with digital digs even she can use.
